Happy New Year! Empty Happy New Year!

Post  tsukany Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:21 am

The First Poem of this Year

Another lyric poses as the last poem of last year.
The content reflects hundreds of days as well as
tin foil stuck in a crater on the dark side of the moon.

Its redeeming feature is preventing something

no one will notice or bring up in a trivial pursuit challenge.
There are hundreds of new events scheduled to occur
this year and some of them will replace this in style.

Happy New Year! Empty May it be a happy new year to you!

I understand the poem.  Most of it.  Smile

I wonder if you need the pieces I pushed past in S 3:
or bring up in a trivial pursuit challenge.  (Took me down another lane)
Also:  to occur (necessary?)

And "this in style" - "this"     Are we talking about this poem?  I took it that way.

I like the title.

I also like the format you chose.

Fun idea to have your first poem reflecting on the New Year! I liked reading your poem.
However, the tin foil reference lost me. Made me wonder if I missed some current event or history lesson about NASA exploring the moon.
I feel like I'm missing a deeper meaning to your poem, but I'm guessing it starts with not understanding the tin foil reference.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

Tin Foil Moon.

Not significant to the world, but memorable if you made one.

Happy New Year! Empty Missed It

Post  tsukany Thu Jan 02, 2020 9:51 am

Renee and Pat

I had hoped that the irony of "the last poem of 2019 would be written in 2020" was more clear.

I attempted to illustrate that with a reference to tin foil on the moon, but on the side of the moon that has no light.

I chose "preventing" as a gerund rather than part of the verb.  Maybe a colon would make that clearer (s2)

I wondered if the ending would be clear enough.  (it wasn't)

I know that in a lyric poem, the writer records an event.  2020 promises many more opportunities for better poems than "Mercy.  I need to write a poem for Dec in Jan."  Smile

Blessings on us all and may this year be filled with more critiques like this one!!!!!!  (love it)

Happy New Year! Empty Lines 1 and 4

Post  Pat Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:59 pm

Got the irony.  These two lines are favorites.
Got the light lacking on dark side.
Tin foil....I was guessing, guessing.
Opportunities and mercy:  all good with me.
Preventing is good.
Happy new year!

The First Poem of this Year

Another lyric poses as the last poem of last year.
The content reflects hundreds of storylines no better
than tin foil stuck in a crater on the dark side of the moon.

Its redeeming feature is communication of something

no one will notice or bring up in a trivial pursuit challenge.
There are hundreds of moony events scheduled to occur
this year and some of them will eclipse this in style.

Got it!  Like it. You are tying the two years together in a humble way. Love the moony events and eclipse.  Smile  Well done.
