Looking for trouble :) Empty Looking for trouble :)

In the City of Brotherly Love
“Nor did they repent . . . .” Rev 9:21

I walk your streets today,
looking into businesses,
emptied.

Across the street,
a four-wheeled sweeper
sucks glass into its craw.

To my left, a plywood canvas
waits a rattle-can's lettering
“. . . been looted already.”

Looking for trouble :) Empty I like it!

Post  renee.barger Thu Oct 29, 2020 6:59 pm

I like this poem a lot. Created a lot of vivid images. Again, such a timely poem.

I love that emptied is on its own line in stanza 1.

I just love stanza 2. Great word choices. I'm amazed at how you can communicate an image so quickly. I want to get better at that!

Stanza 3, my brain when to trash can instead of a spray can, but once I read it a few times, I figured it out!!! Very powerful ending.

Looking for trouble :) Empty Love the title!

Love the irony.

V 1 - Simple image: I think of you in the middle of a street, walking, looking.
V 2 - I am not clear where you are in this stanza. Did you move? Are you now on a sidewalk?  If you say, To the right or up ahead or in front of me? ....  that would take care of it.  Great third line.
V 3 - I paused at rattle-can.  Do people call it that or did you say it to get us to think and hear the sound?  You may lose a few readers there, but if readers have used a spray can, there's always a rattle.
I like the closure line.

Title is great.

Pat and Renee

Thanks for your feedback.

"Rattle cans" is what youtube users call spray paint.  I know.  I am an old dog learning new stuff.  Smile
