Processing the title is problematic? Empty Processing the title is problematic?

Post  tsukany Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:24 am

today is for hearing

the trail is unchanged   still
   we left you for others
nearly thirty days   a month
by some reckoning   in that
time   those asphalt-pounding
days   the trail has not changed

oh   leaves and sticks have
   been displaced by some arbitrary
mother    west of the trail proper
  someone   or someones
dropped trees to build a dozer
pile   lit it   and trusted it
would stay put    the trail remains

unchanged by our griping breath
our frozen beards   our temporary
footprints   our expectations
turned to expectorations

Processing the title is problematic? Empty Yes on the title...

Post  Pat Sun Jan 30, 2022 3:57 pm

For me, the title doesn't help me... hearing?  Maybe the first line is the title?  or just "changes"

V 1:  lots of effort from man
V 2: nature at work
V 3:  how one interacted with the other

What I hear from the poem is no change in the trail... left the same though it was pounded by feet every day? BUT change inside man, the invisible, is big; so is man's pushing himself or pushing against nature---expectations became spit????.

Maybe a space between build and a dozer? Not sure you need anything about dozer.  It distracted me.

I like remains/ unchanged...

Closure verse--- no matter what runners did, it changed nothing. Trail or the Way remained the same. Shows man's littleness, though they may fight on.

I reread it 3 or 4 times.  It got better with each read.
Thanks for all the energy you put into your poems.  I like the form/format;  oh yeah, check pile or piled.

Todd, I had a terrible time trying to find SEND at the bottom of my poem.  I may have sent it more than once? Looks like something is out there though.

Processing the title is problematic? Empty You're running on a trail you haven't ran on for 30 days?

Post  renee.barger Tue Feb 01, 2022 1:39 am

I liked the spacing you used. Made me think. It was crisp and path-like. Smile

30 days made me think of a spiritual meaning, but I'm not sure if that's really what you were going for. I didn't see anything else that felt like a spiritual lesson or message.

Because I also know you write political poems, I at first thought of a political trail. Into the poem, I realized you were talking about a literal (I think?) trail. I didn't see any political statements.

Because I know you run, I think you're talking about a literal trail? I don't know for sure who "we" is, but I'm guessing that doesn't matter.

I liked reading about the trail remaining the same even if things happen to the trail. I think that's the main thing I got from the poem.
