From Here
(Romania Poppy Field and Hillside –oil on canvas)

Sinking into a bed of green and sunshine
I feel I can touch the hem of red poppies.
Three buildings grow before my eyes–
city hall, the mercantile, a community
center.  Soon we will rise, push
our way over the hill to the field
of promise, pregnant with peace.

One more if you have time Empty An ekphrastic poem inspired by a painting, but

Post  Pat Sat Jul 16, 2022 5:13 pm

I don't know which one.
Can you name it, so we can maybe find it? Even if it's by a new artist, I'd honor him/her by listing the name of the painting. Happily, there are many such paintings, so I enjoyed a couple. Monte's was one, of course.
Other than that, I don't see much to check out.
I esp. like "hem of red poppies".
Good job of making me think about the promise land.
Last lines, esp good.
Also like the two fields...

We've been watching WWII movies.  A friend's gson just returned to the states from Romania.  So my mind went to a war scene in the midst of this poem-- poppies, then concrete city, then promise land.  Like the narrator figured he'd die there. "We" will rise...  Soldiers; "push" sounds military to me; field of promise...heaven; pregnant with peace... yet to come. Peace is the opposite of war.  Has to be heavenly...
