Happy Thanksgiving Day (after) Empty Happy Thanksgiving Day (after)

On a Day We Offer Thanks

The living room seems full enough:
three couples, an adopted son,
and one mostly lame dog.  Suddenly,

as the sounds of worship music
and voice trail off into a refrigerator cycle,
The Presence remains. This reverent

moment, interrupted, erupts into an hour
of testimony to divine appointments
and names of people who have long ago
joined the cloud of witnesses.

Maybe I'll comment later.
For now, this makes me teary-eyed.

Happy Thanksgiving Day (after) Empty Response to your thanksgiving poem

Perfect title.
I like the first stanza. Simple and clear. Easy to follow. Interesting that "suddenly" is at the end of the line, but it fits there.

I like refrigerator cycle! Different from what I expected. The Presence.  Very good. I'm not sure you need "reverent".  I think "This moment" captures it.

Yes, present tense.  The third stanza is what made me teary-eyed.  I miss some people, too.  I wish we could have talked about them.  We didn't.  (Recent grief was there though--- in the eyes of a daughter-in-law. My son was protective of her.) Losses. I love that you included the names/divine appointments, cloud of witnesses. Beautiful. It is a great reminder of how the Lord can, does, and has worked in lives. Precious reminder.

Well done!  Thank you for sharing...

Knife inserted and twisted metaphorically, into heart.
Only idea: omit "interrupted" I see that line break as powerful enough of an interruption. <3
