Bad Hair Day

She left off discussing the weather
to defining terms, for example bad.
You replaying that 60’s tune
or channeling your inner MJ?
She groans in uncertain terms
about the plate of catfish,
or was it sushi?  no matter.
She follows that tail with another,

something about spinning like a tot
on the playground.  All fun and games
until lunch is thrown.  But we digress.
The point being made has hold on
briar rabbit, Fiver, a seer
or was it Joseph?  no matter.

Changed poems. Sorry Empty Not sure if I follow....

Post  Pat Thu Jun 27, 2019 7:01 am

Short poem for three pronouns:  she, you, we
Bad Hair Day.  Just means "hard day", right???
Line 2:  she tells about her day?  The badness of her day? You half hear?
Lines 3 & 4:  Is this done in the head or is it where she hears it?
Line 5:  in uncertain terms;  I think that weakens her and what she is saying
Last line of S 1:  tail---- I get the tail of the fish, but I first thought it was misspelled.  I thought you meant tale.  no matter.  It works also to mean:  she continued to eat.

S 2:  So now tale fits.
Lines 1, 2, 3:  I follow easily.
But we digress: I'm thinking this means "I, not we, come back to the main topic."  Is she talking in circles while you are floating off another direction? Smile

Is it her point being made?   I want to say:  At last, her point has a hold on....
Again, no matter.  I like the repetition.  Holds it together.
This stanza sounds a little like a kid and an adult  OR a woman and a man
Joseph?  Biblical Joseph?  Which one? Mary's Joseph, trying to take care of Mary and baby Jesus?

The strangeness of where MJ or the stream of consciousness can take someone.
Bad hair day suddenly fits.

Not sure about any of this.  This is the direction this one reader took it.  Dinner of fish, grumbling, stream of consciousness, telling of hard day, not there, then suddenly there and agreeing:  Fiver.  It has a hold on brier rabbit.

I smile at the poem.
These are just thoughts as I read and reread.  Hope something here is helpful.

Changed poems. Sorry Empty I thought of a cat...

Post  renee.barger Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:49 pm

I was thinking it was a cat when I first read, but I don't think it fits because of details like DJ, etc. I feel pretty lost this time, so I relied on Pat's dissection. I was really interested in the title though, maybe because most of my days are bad hair days. Smile Interested in another version if you decide to rework any of it.
